A removable bridge is designed to attach to the remaining teeth for stability and anchorage. Often they are done in combination with crowns for better fit and function or to design a “claspless” bridge for best esthetics. As the name implies, it is removable by the patient for cleaning. This treatment option is used if there are many missing teeth and the patient cannot or does not want to have implants placed. Correctly designed, it can be a fine option which restores chewing function, speech and esthetics.
In the example below, the patient’s upper front teeth and lower right back teeth are replaced with removable bridges. The anchor teeth have crowns to improve the fit and stability and, as you can see, is designed so that no metal shows for a natural, beautiful appearance.
